Press conference of "FOOD" in Milan on October 16


On the occasion of World Food Day


will be presented to the press on Tuesday, October 16 at 12 am at Palazzo Isimbardi, Via Vivaio 1 in Milan.

Curated and conceived by Adelina von Fürstenberg, the project is a reflection on the preservation of our Mother Earth, the choices of nutrition, the consequences of the climate changes, the poisoning of the agricultural products, the gap of the feeding distribution, the famine and other subjects connected.

The conference will see the interventions by: Filippo Ciantia, Country Relations Manager International Affairs Department, Expo 2015; Sami Kanaan, Conseiller Administratif and Chef du Département Culture et Sport de la Ville de Genève; Daniela Rubino, Vice-President of Slow Food Lombardia; Marina Calloni, Department of Sociology and Social Research of the Università degli Studi, Milano-Bicocca; Adelina von Fürstenberg, concept and curatorship of FOOD and President of ART for The World, and the representatives of Provincia di Milano.                        
                                     
FOOD aims to be, through the works of the artists and filmmakers, a platform for culture and creativity for a better comprehension of reality and practice of values concerning alimentation, with a view to Expo Milan 2015, whose main topic is Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.

With exhibitions, performances, films, debates, conferences, round tables and workshops around the topic of nutrition, the audience will be involved in questions connected to the territory, right to the food, valorization of the alimentary traditions for a sustainable development and to encourage new attitudes to the new generations, with the contributo also of economists, anthropologists, sociologists and alimentary research centers.

FOOD avant-première will take place in Geneva at Musée Ariana, from December 19, 2013 to February 24, 2014. After the Geneva venue and in the context of the Milan EXPO 2015, FOOD will be presented at Spazio Oberdan in Milan in September 2013 in collaboration with the Province of Milan, in Sao Paulo from March to June 2014, in collaboration with SESC, Sao Paulo Regional Direction, and in Marseille from October 2014 to February 2015 at MuCEM (Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée), to end up again in Italy (venue to be confirmed) during Expo 2015.
 
FOOD will present the works of artists coming from the five continents, concerned by questions linked to earth, agriculture and alimentation: Marina Abramović (Serbia), John Armleder (Switzerland), Joseph Beuys (Germany), Marcel Broodthaers (Belgium), Mircea Cantor (Romania/France), Lenora de Barros (Brazil), Subodh Gupta (India), Jannis Kounellis (Greece/Italy), Los Carpinteros (Cuba), Anna Maria Maiolino (Brazil), Marcello Maloberti (Italy), Cildo Meireles (Brazil), Miralda (Spain), Tony Morgan (UK/Switzerland), Liliana Moro (Italy), Gianni Motti (Italy/ Switzerland), Ernesto Neto (Brazil), Meret Oppenheim (Germany/Switzerland), Angelo Plessas (Greece), Pipilotti Rist (Switzerland), Dieter Roth (Switzerland), Shimabuku (Japan), Vivianne van Singer (Switzerland), Ragubir Singh (India), Daniel Spoerri (Switzerland), Barthélémy Toguo (Cameroon/France), Nari Ward (USA).
At the same time, there will be presented the short films by the following filmmakers: Jia Zhang-ke (China), Murali Nair (India), Idrissa Ouedraogo (Burkina Faso), Pablo Trapero (Argentina) and the   documentary Mesa Brasil, produced by the SESC Sao Paulo Regional Direction, Brasil and one by the Austrian collective Wastecooking.

Opening of The Mediterranean Approach at SESC Pinheiros, Sao Paulo, Brazil

At SESC Pinheiros, Sao Paulo, Brazil, the 3rd and last venue of The Mediterranean Approach. 

Opening Saturday, October 6 at 11am with the participation of the artists Ghada Amer, Adrian Paci, David Casini, Peter Wüthrich and the filmmaker Hüseyin Karabey.

In September, we moved our offices in the premises of Assab One, via Assab One, 20132 Milan, created and directed by Elena Quarestani, also Member of the board of ART for The World Europa.  We are grateful to Elena for having invited ART for The World Europa in this very special Milan art space, open since 2002 to art, cinema, performances, among other cultural activities.

The Mediterranean Approach at SESC Pinheiros, Sao Paulo, Brazil

After the Venice and Marseille venues during 2011-2012, The Mediterranean Approach is shown in Sao Paulo, Brazil at SESC Pinheiros from October 7, 2012 to January 15, 2013.

The 14-years-collaboration between and SESC Regional Direction - Sao Paulo and ART for The World is based to promote art linked to ethical and social concerns with a clearly educational perspective. The Mediterranean Approach seals, once more, this collaboration through the artworks of 14 artists and filmmakers coming from the different Mediterranean countries.

The participating artists and filmmkers are: Ghada Amer, Ziad Antar, Faouzi Bensaïdi, Jacques Berthet, Marie Bovo, David Casini, Hüseyin Karabey, Ange Leccia, Adrian Paci, Maria Papadimitriou, Khalil Rabah, Zineb Sedira, Gal Weinstein and Peter Wüthrich.
In Sao Paulo, some of the works will differ from the ones seen during the previous venues, such as: Ghada Amer’s 100 Words of Love, David Casini’s Il ritorno dell’illogica abitudine, Zineb Sedira’s Saphir and Gal Weinstein’s Lighthouse.

Artists Ghada Amer, David Casini, Adrian Paci, Maria Papadimitriou, Peter Wüthrich and filmmaker Hüseyin Karabey, will attend the opening in SESC Pinheiros, Rua Paes Leme 195, Sao Paulo on Saturday, October 6, from noon to 3 pm.

During the installation of the show, it will take place simultaneously Digi-Tales, a 2 days of a masterclass with Hüseyin Karabey. People of different generation and background will work with the filmmaker on creating short films using their own photographic material and memories. The inscriptions are open at SESC Pinheiros.

Continuing his collection of The Angels of the World, and after Venice, Peter Wüthrich will work with Sao Paulo’s inhabitants going around in the city and shooting  The Angels of Sao Paulo.

FOOD, Press Conference at Palazzo Isimbardi, Milan

A press conference presenting our newest travelling project, FOOD, Reflections on Mother Earth, Agriculture and Nutrition, will take place on October 16, 2012, during the International World Food Day, at Palazzo Isimbardi, via Vivaio 1 in Milan, in collaboration with the Cultural Department of the Provincia di Milano, the Department of Culture and Sport of the City of Geneva,  Slow Food and the University of Bicocca, under the patronage of Expo 2015, the Universal Exhibition of Milan, having the topic  Feeding the Planet. Energy for life.
FOOD will be shown in Geneva at Musée Ariana (December 18, 2012 – February 24, 2013), in Milan at Spazio Oberdan (September - November 2013), in Marseille at MuCEM, Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée (September 2014 – January 2015), among other venues.
