The Accordion at the Berlinale

Few months ago, Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick has invited Jafar Panahi to join the International Jury of the 61st Berlin International Film Festival (10-20 February, 2011).
Shortly after, the renowned Iranian director was sentenced to six years in prison and banned from filmmaking for the next 20 years.
Ever since, people have been protesting worldwide against this verdict and the Berlinale is holding a place open in the Jury for Jafar Panahi to signalize its support for his struggle for freedom.
In the contest of the Berlinale, ARTE will dedicate a special screening on February 16 to the Iranian director presenting his most recent short movie The Accordion, that will be broadcast paralley on ARTE TV channel, as well as his movie The Circle
The Festival will also dedicate special screenings to other four movies of the director (Offside, Crimson Gold, The White Balloon, Untying the Knot ), one in each of several sections to call attention to the artist’s extraordinary oeuvre.
